The Big Show
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Next weekend the biggest stamp show in the U-S this year will
be held in Rosemont, Illinois, outside Chicago. It's the annual
convention of the American Philatelic Society, and called,
simply, "Stampshow 2001."
During the show, three countries will issue stamps: From the U-S,
a block of four Carnivorous Plants....from Uganda, six dog
stamps...and from the Marshall Islands, a sheet of 9 U-S Navy
Heroes of the Pacific....including "Butch" O'Hare, after whom
Chicago's main airport is named. O'Hare singlehandedly defended
an aircraft carrier from a wave of Japanese bombers. Some say the
Marshall Islands, which were occupied during World War Two, does
a better job of commemorating U-S history on stamps than the U-S.
There will be several booths of stamps for no more than ten cents
each, as well as many dealers in better material, and some of the
world's most valuable stamps will be on display. There will also
be a large youth area.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
