August 11-12, 2001:
A peak into the crystal ball.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
We'll get the official word about next year's U-S stamp
program in a few weeks, but already there are some
indications what we'll see in our post offices next year.
First, you can bet on new Christmas and Black Heritage
stamps. The Postal Service wouldn't DARE skip either one.
And it hasn't finished its Lunar New Year series yet:
It'll be the Year of the Horse.
You can count on new entries also in the American
Treasures and Nature of America series.
We've been told to expect a 50-state "something" next
year...but recent postal cutbacks may nix that.
A web site for West Point's bi-centennial says there will
be a stamp in March....
And a member of the Virtual Stamp Club reports an issue for
traffic safety. Next year just HAPPENS to be the centennial
of Triple A.
An advocate for a stamp telling us to spay and neuter our pets
was told to expect that stamp next year.
Of course, even after the announcement, the program can change.
Watch this space, as they say.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
