We Still Love Lucy.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
And you'll be able to adorn your letters and cards with a new
Lucille Ball stamp next week. It goes on sale in Los Angeles
Monday, the rest of the country Tuesday.
It's the latest entry in the Legends of Hollywood series of
stamps, but Ball is the first star in the series known primarily
for television, not movies.
However, when you see the stamp, you may be a little surprised:
That's not Lucy Ricardo, that's a glamorous red-headed movie
star. Her family requested that that was how she'd be depicted --
She appeared in "Stage Door," "Too Many Girls," and other many
films. In fact, she reportedly was considered for Scarlett O'Hara
in "Gone With The Wind." The Postal Service went along with the
request.
But that's not how we REMEMBER her, so the large illustration in
the margin of the sheet of 20 stamps is of Lucy Ricardo.
In 1999, by the way, she and Desi were on one of the Celebrate the
Century stamps for the 1950s.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
