October 17-18, 1998:
Great-looking U-S stamps you'll probably never see.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
They're space shuttle stamps: One for Priority Mail and
another for Express Mail. Coming out next month are two
more, showing the space shuttle landing and the space
shuttle riding piggy-back atop a 747 jet. They're beautiful
stamps -- but they're expensive: Priority Mail right now is
three dollars, and goes up to three-twenty in January.
Express mail is 10-75 and will be 11-75.
And you won't see them very often on your mail, because most
post office window clerks would rather use meters than
stamps. You have to demand a stamp for your Express or
Priority Mail, and even then, you may not get it.
The Space Shuttle Piggyback stamp, for Express Mail, is
coming out November 19th at a big New York City stamp
show. The Space Shuttle Landing stamp will be issued
November 9th in Washington with no fanfare at all. That's
two days after the space shuttle with John Glenn aboard
is scheduled to land.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
