Insuring your collection.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The first question is, why bother?

"You should bother to have insurance if the loss will
actually mean something to you financially."

Hugh Wood runs the insurance program for the American
Philatelic Society. He says collections add up quickly.

RUNS=:10
"You come to a show and you walk around, and most people
buy a little of this, a little of that, and you find at
the end of the year, 'Did I spend that amount on
philately?' and the answer is yes, you probably did."

Wood says homeowners policies usually aren't sufficient.

RUNS=:11
"There may be problems as far as valuations are
concerned, there may be problems as far as the
definitions are concerned, and with collectibles of this
type, it's always better to have a specialist policy."

There are now two stamp collection insurance programs
available in the U-S:  Wood's American Philatelic
Society plan and another, from Dan Walker, offered by
a number of other national organizations.


Remember the voting for the 1950s Celebrate the Century
stamps?  The Postal Service expects to release the
results this coming week.
