More of the same
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
In an editorial, John Dunn, the publisher of Mekeel's and
Stamps magazine, a weekly, predicts 1998 will see repeats
of many of 1997's developments: Among them, more U-S
varieties intended to create scarcities, more involvement
by Congress in choosing stamp subjects, more head-shaking
by traditionalist collectors, and a lack of good material
on the market, probably because strong collections are
being assembled by younger collectors and investors.
The Postal Service this coming week continues unveiling
Celebrate the Century subjects from the early years of
the Century: The Great Train Robbery silent film from
the 1900's, and then from the 1910's, Federal Reserve,
Woodrow Wilson, the Armory Art Show George Washington
Carver, Grand Canyon and Construction Toys.
The U-S this week releases its Winter Sports stamp for
Alpine Skiing. And although it's not supposed to be
an Olympic stamp, the ceremony for the new issue IS
taking place in Salt Lake City, the site of the
2000 Summer Olympics.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
