A Google Gaffe

You've heard that saying "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing?"

Google Checkout is an online payment system that the search giant hopes can challenge 
PayPal for handling all those online transactions. BidStart is an online auction site 
that hopes to challenge eBay for the collectibles market.

According to a press release from BidStart, Google Checkout suspended the account of 
one of BidStart's top sellers because he was offering U-S stamps that were more than a 
hundred years old. Supposedly, a 40-year-old international treaty allows a country to 
ban the sale of its stamps if they're recognized as cultural property....something the 
United States DOES NOT DO. It's LEGAL to sell century-old U-S stamps. In fact, BidStart 
points out that most U-S stamps from a hundred years ago can still be used to mail 
letters. You'd be a fool to do it, but it's legal.

The people at Google Checkout could have found all this out by themselves.....if only 
they'd Googled the subject.
