Divine Providence <Providence Provides>

The Stamp Collecting Report. I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Some U-S post offices still have windows that cater to stamp collectors, but the Providence, 
Rhode Island post office takes sales to collectors -- that is, philatelic sales -- one step 
further.

"We have always been collector friendly, we have always had a good philatelic window, and 
then we heard about other collectors who are interested in what we could find."RUNS :09


So Donna Rajotte, the Internet philatelic sales clerk in Providence, sells stamps via the 
Internet... including stamps for obscure rates, hard-to-find printing varieties and all 
the different sizes and configurations for stamped envelopes.

"We do mail order philatelic sales stamps that they would be interested in." Do you go 
looking for collectors? "We have. We've contacted stamp clubs, Internet programs, and other 
collectors."

And that’s not all Providence seeks:

"Our distribution office will look for stamps that have been released, if we have an idea 
of where they are, or if we run out of something, they'll contact other distribution 
offices."

The U-S Postal Service is losing money, and other post offices are cutting back on 
philatelic sales.

"Our program is more under Marketing than Retail, and they want their program to expand. 
They're more interested in helping the collector, and not so worried about hours, which can 
be a problem at a regular post office."
