The Love-Hate Relationship.

The Stamp Collecting Report. I'm Lloyd de Vries.

We love 'em, we hate 'em. Postal workers, that is. Stamp collectors are their best 
customers, really. We use the Postal Service when many other customers have defected 
to the Internet or other delivery services. We buy stamps we never use. And we know 
the postal rules and regulations, sometimes better than the clerks themselves.

That probably doesn't help. I'm sure some postal workers see stamp collectors as 
detail-obsessed know-it-alls. And if you've ever stood in line behind a collector 
spending 15 minutes agonizing over which sheet of stamps to buy, you'd have to agree.

Sometimes collectors lose sight of the fact that a postal agency's primary job is to 
deliver mail... not sell us stamps and cancel our envelopes.

Of course, it would be nice if more Postal People remember that their own Postal 
Operations Manual states they're supposed to help us when possible, providing neat 
cancellations and having the latest stamps.

An occasional smile wouldn't hurt, either.
