The Chairman of the Board
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Opens with: The Best Is Yet To Come....music
Although it wasn't announced last August with the rest of next year's stamps, a Frank Sinatra
stamp was in the works all along, says the Postal Service's Dave Failor.
"We've had a lot of requests for a Frank Sinatra stamp, certainly one of the great American
icons, and to be able to feature him in our stamp program is a big thrill for all of us."
RUNS :08
Another source says it just took awhile to resolve all the rights issues, although Failor says
there were no problems.
"Working with the Sinatra family and those who represent the estate has just been very easy and
very good."
RUNS :05
The stamp design will be released soon, but Failor tells me it portrays Sinatra in the
mid-1950s....about the time his film career took off and his recording career was reborn.
"It's a wonderful portrait by an artist who we've used before, Kazahiko Sano, and I think people
will be very happy with Ol' Blue Eyes."
RUNS :07
The stamp itself should be out in late spring, but the date may depend on whether there's a
postal rate hike, and when.
"We want to time so it would be at the new rate, as to not issue it at the old rate and only be
able to have it a very short shelf life of say a month or two."
RUNS :10
May 14th would be the 10th anniversary of his death.
