It's hard to buy a stamp collecting gift unless you know quite a bit about the person's 
collection. But here are some safe bets, all under fifty dollars..

Scott Publications' major stamp catalogues are a little hefty to carry around at stamp 
shows , so I like their U-S Pocket Catalogue . The same company publishes Scott Stamp 
Monthly and Linn's Stamp News, as well as the Linn's Stamp Yearbooks...full of interesting fun-to-read information about recent U-S stamps. Go to amos-advantage-dot-com to order.

Or consider a gift membership in the American Philatelic Society, the country's major 
stamp collecting organization. It includes a full-color monthly magazine, worth the price 
alone, as well as other services. Go to stamps-dot-org for more information.

Finally, one of my favorites is the Postal Service Guide to U-S stamps. It's colorful, 
catalogues most U-S stamps, has interesting stories about some of them, and is on sale at 
many post offices and U-S-P-S-dot-com
