The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
When the U-S issues a stamp, it may only be available in a certain city or cities for the
first day, and not released to other post offices until the next day. There's generally
also a ceremony.
Take the upcoming Aviation stamps. One of the ceremonies will be at the AirVenture Oshkosh
air show. That's what's called an "affinity event" -- people with a special interest in the
SUBJECT of the stamps.
But the Aviation stamps will also have a ceremony in Vienna Virginia, near Washington, at
a STAMP show, says Postal Service stamps chief Dave Failor.
"The group is celebrating their 50th anniversary and we're just very pleased that we can
help them with their celebration."
RUNS :06
And then there's next month's Presidential Libraries. One stamp, twelve cities, thirteen
ceremonies.
"I don't want to say politics ever comes into play, but certainly when we began the
discussion about where we should have the first day ceremony, it was like 'How do you go
to one library and not the other?'"
RUNS :10
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.

"As far as a venue goes for being at a location where everyone is passionate about planes,
I think Oshkosh, their event is one of the world leaders when it comes to that sort of
thing."

It's a big deal to stamp collectors, says Failor.
"Collectors are very excited when we're able to do stamp dedications at the shows. It
certainly draws attention to the show, the fact that it's going to be there."

You don't.
