Twixt Tweens and Teens
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Next month is National Stamp Collecting Month, this month is the start of the school year,
and a number of countries are aiming their stamps at the youth market.
Norway recently issued two stamps celebrating text messaging on cell phones. One shows a smiley-face...the other, slogan buttons on a pair of jeans, one of which sports the
text-message code for "Fond of You." Scandinavian countries have the highest density of
mobile phones anywhere -- practically every teen has one. There are hopes the new stamps
might encourage a few to write more postcards.
The U-S is issuing a set of Cloudscapes, 15 stamps showing different types of clouds,
says chief stamp designer Terry McCaffrey.
"That's an education stamp for kids learning about clouds, but it's also educational for
adults as well. I learned a lot in developing these stamps."
RUNS :07
The five stamps on the top row are those found at the highest altitudes....the five on
the bottom, those closest to earth.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
