It's the Muppet Show!
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
[ muppet theme up and under]
One of the subjects of next year's U-S stamps is the Muppets. Ten of the stamps feature
popular characters created by Jim Henson. The eleventh is of Henson himself, who died in
1990 at the age of 53.
The characters on the stamps include Kermit, Miss Piggy -- as if they'd dare leave her
off! -- Rowlf, the first Muppet with a national audience...and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his
hapless assistant Beaker.
Although Honeydew and Beaker were never major characters on "The Muppet Show" or in films,
recently the two were voted Britain's favorite movie scientists of all time. Star Trek's
Mr. Spock was only a distant second.
"They are accessible, humorous and occasionally blow each other up," said a co-sponsor of
the poll.
And next year, you can put them on your mail.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
