What am I going to do with this stuff?

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Or perhaps this is the stamp UN-collecting report. You've inherited a
relative's stamp collection, or perhaps found yours from childhood. You'd
like to get rid of it, and perhaps pick up a little cash.

Well, the more time and effort you put into evaluating the collection, the
more you're likely to get for it. Take it to a stamp dealer and dump it on
the counter, and you'll get bottom dollar for it. Instead, do your homework,
and get an idea whether it's worth putting more time into it.

Organize the stamps by country, and by when they were issued, if you can
tell.

Most public libraries have a set of Scott postage stamp catalogues, usually
in the reference section. Leaf through them and see if any of your stamps
stand out in value from the rest.

If most of the collection is U-S stamps since World War Two, I have some bad
news for you: Most of them haven't gone up in value. But SOME have, so check
it out.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
