October 12-13, 2002:
A Second Look At Next Year
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
We've known most of the subjects for next year's stamps since mid-August,
but the Postal Service publicly unveiled the DESIGNS this past week, giving
us a chance to look at them.
The portrait of a young Audrey Hepburn is earning rave reviews.
"We think it's a beautiful portrait based on a photo taken from Sabrina, one
of the early films."
RUNS :07
Chief stamp designer Terry McCaffrey's favorite issue for next year is the
set of ten behind-the-scenes film-making stamps.
"All combined, that's what makes movies, not just the actors. This is paying
homage to the people who really deserve it"
RUNS :08
But this design -- which shows each craft in a frame of film, complete with
sprocket holes -- is getting mixed reviews.
Another issue to watch carefully is Old Glory in April, five different
pictures of knick-knacks that feature flag designs. Will purists accept it?
You can see the stamp designs and judge for yourself at

And that's stamp collecting this week.
