Suppose they gave a stamp show and nobody came?


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
 
It wasn't THAT bad but the turn-out for the 10-day World 
Stamp Expo earlier this month in Anaheim was disappointing. 
Maybe it's time to cut back on the number of days for 
international shows.


Not only that, but dealers in the front of the hall paid 
the Postal Service a premium to be near the entrance... so 
imagine the reaction when patrons discovered that they 
could walk a much shorter distance and enter the show from 
the BACK.


It's rumored that World Stamp Expo 2000 was intended as 
the Postal Service's answer to the mis-managed Pacific 97 
show three years ago.


Instead, coming on the heels of reports the U-S-P-S is 
going to cut its youth collectors' programs...one has to 
wonder if World Stamp Expo might not be the death knell 
for splashy Postal Service participation in stamp shows.


Around the country, local postmasters are telling stamp 
shows they can't afford to provide postal booths....even 
though stamp sales often more than cover the overtime.


And that's stamp collecting this week.
