November 27-28, 1999:
Spreading happiness.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Several years ago, collector Steve Suffet bought an envelope
at a New York City stamp store for twenty dollars, and as he
left the store, another customer offered him a hundred for
it. He took it. Later, he told the dealer what had happened.

OUTCUE: ...can't really beat that

<He said the person who originally made up these covers
and serviced them sold them for a dollar apiece, and was
happy to get a dollar. He sold it to someone who was happy
to PAY a dollar. Somewhere along the line, I bought it as
part of a large lot, and whoever I bought it from was happy
to get whatever I paid for it. I was very happy to sell it
to you for twenty dollars. You were very happy to pay me
twenty dollars and sell it for a hundred dollars. Someone
was very happy to pay you a hundred dollars for it, and
finally, I'm certain he resold it, and someone was happy
to pay seven or eight hundred dollars for that cover. Now
that's seven people who are happy because of one cover,
and I'll tell you something: You can't really beat that.>
No, you can't.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
