October 9-10, 1999:
Exhibiting.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Whenever I've visited other collectors, they always want to
show me their collections or latest acquisitions. Exhibiting
at a stamp show is just an extension of that: A chance to
show off prized possessions.
This past year, I decided to try exhibiting for the first
time myself. You don't have to have expensive material - in
fact, I think I spent as much on postage shipping my exhibit
around the country as I did on the collectibles themselves.
Presentation is as important as value in exhibiting...maybe
more.
While I didn't win any big awards, I got lots of nice comments
about my collection, and it was gratifying to see people
examining my exhibit at shows.
The American Philatelic Society is making it easier to exhibit,
opening some classifications and broadening categories. Contact
the A-P-S if you'd like to find out more about exhibiting: On
the Internet, it's stamps-dot-org...or by regular mail, Box
Eight-thousand, State College, Pennsylvania.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
