The Black Heritage Series continues.


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries


The Postal Service is denying that it plans to end its 
Black Heritage Series.  Each February, as Black History 
Month starts, an important African-American in our history 
is honored.  Sometimes that person is controversial, like 
this year's Malcolm X stamp...and sometimes the subject is 
obscure.


That may have been the start of the rumor: The Postal 
Service ordered a small printing for last year's stamp, 
honoring Madam C-J Walker, the cosmetics queen. The 
marketers probably figured there wouldn't be a great deal 
of interest in Walker.


However, the series, which began more than 20 years ago, 
has a solid following.  Also, many postal workers are black, 
and the stamp series is as much for them as for the 
customers. Rumors of the series' demise are premature.


Amos Press, the parent company of stamp collecting's biggest
newspaper, is no longer for sale. Apparently none of the 
offers was to the family's liking.  Amos publishes LINN'S 
STAMP NEWS, Scott Catalogues and SCOTT STAMP MONTHLY.
