Showing off to the folks overseas.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries
Some collectors complain that U-S stamps should be
celebrating America's history, culture and natural beauty,
but instead are showcasing cartoon characters, kids'
interests and commercial products. Well, without getting
into the middle of THAT argument, this week, the Postal
Service issues some items that should satisfy traditionalists:
A Mount Rainier (RAY-neer) postal card and a Voyageurs
National Park aerogramme. That's a postpaid sheet of thin
paper on which to write your letter. Coming up sometime in
the future are stamps for the Grand Canyon and Rio Grande.
The Niagara Falls stamp is being issued at Niagara Falls,
appropriately enough....but the postal stationery for the
parks in Washington and Minnesota is being issued in Denver.
Why Denver? There's a major stamp show there next weekend.
There's just one hitch: These stamps and stationery are for
use on cards and letters going overseas. Chances are you
won't see them on the mail coming into your home.
And that's stamp collectiong this week.
