Let’s put on a show.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
This is a special year for U-S stamp collecting, because our country is hosting an
international stamp show, an honor given only once a decade. But in any given year,
there are more than three dozen major stamp collecting shows in the U-S.
The biggest is sponsored by the American Philatelic Society.
#2 “Our summer shows still are around the attendance of 4,000 to 5,000 folks, maybe
more, it just depends on the venue.” RUNS :07
Megan Orient, the new manager of shows and exhibitions for the A-P-S, says the smaller
winter show gets about two thousand people.
She wasn’t a stamp collector before taking the job, and was surprised to learn how many
people collect stamps.
#3a “I had no idea there were 31,000-plus members of the organization, and I’m sure
there are many other stamp collectors outside of the organization that aren’t aware of
us.” RUNS :08
StampShow is held in different locations each year.
#4 “We try to move our show around the country so that we can reach our members in
various locations.” RUNS :05
This year, StampShow is in Portland, Oregon, in early August. You can find more
