And then there was one.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The U-S Postal Service’s Board of Governors now has only one member. Everyone else’s
term has expired… and no new Governors have been appointed.
The Postal Service likes to remind us that the nine members of its board are appointed
by the President, and that’s the root of the problem. Mister Obama has nominated FIVE
new Governors, but his choices have to be approved by the Senate. As is the case for
many presidential appointments in politically- polarized Washington these days, his
nominations have been blocked, and it only takes one senator.
But the White House can’t blame this one on the Republicans: The postal appointments
are being blocked by Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is running for the Democratic
presidential nomination.
Sanders is upset about postal facility closings in his state and worries there may be
more, in Vermont or elsewhere.
All this doesn’t affect day-to-day operations, but it does hamper planning and policy
decisions… including rates.
