Remembering the Battle of Britain
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
“I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin.” RUNS :03
75 years ago, Germany began to attack British convoys across the English channel, a
prelude to an invasion of Britain. Then, in early September, Germany began to bomb
London. Britain’s air force repulsed the attacks, and while the Blitz continued, the
invasion was postponed indefinitely. It was Nazi Germany’s first major defeat of
World War Two.
“Never was so much owed by so many to so few” RUNS :07
Royal Mail has issued a set of six stamps honoring the pilots, ground crew and others
who saved Britain. In the margin area you see Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The
stamps and collectibles are already on sale, all but one that combines the stamps and
a commemorative coin. That will be available September 15th, the Battle of Britain
Day.... the anniversary of when the Royal Air Force turned back two massive raids on
London.
“This was their finest hour.” RUNS :03
You can purchase the stamps at royal-mail-dot-com- slash- battle of britain. You can
