Making the U-N relevant.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
While some countries honor their pop singers and actors with stamps, that's not true of
the United Nations Postal Administration.
"It's generally causes or missions or things that are just more global, instead of just
trying to focus on a person." :08
Postal chief Dave Failor says the U-N stamp program concentrates on the world body's
mission and causes, but--
"We're trying to become more relevant and more pop culture --" :03
Failor points to the recent World Oceans Day stamps.
"It's very commercial illustrations that from Dr. Seuss that everybody in the world knows,
but also illustrations that will help us tell the story." :09
And coming up are stamps that do honor cultural accomplishments.
"What we're going to do is feature artwork from six really incredible individuals or
groups that have overcome disabilities to become really good artists, and some of them
performing artists, and some of them visual arts." :11
Stamps with a message are the rule, not the exception at the United Nations.
