In the dark.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Here it is almost spring, and we still don't know what many of this year's U-S commemorative
stamps will be.
We've heard about the regular issues — the flags, flowers and such — but not the special
issues.
Ordinarily, the Postal Service briefs stamp collecting reporters in August, then announces
the stamp program to the general public in November.
But last summer, we were told the Postal Service was trying something new, to get more
publicity: We'd be told about upcoming stamps just three months in advance, probably on a
quarterly basis.
It's not happening. We're getting the information in dribs and drabs, often from outside
sources. Sometimes the information from different parts of the Postal Service conflicts. We've
even seen information posted online, disappear for a few days, and then come back changed.
For some stamp collectors, and MANY publishers, getting this information as early as possible
is important. This year, it's often impossible.
I'm Lloyd de Vries of The Virtual Stamp Club. For more on stamps and stamp collecting, and the
information on new issues as we get it, visit virtual-stamp-club-dot-com.
