After the storm.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
We here in the Eastern U-S are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy, the “super-storm”
or “Franken-storm.”
You know that motto, “Neither rain nor snow nor heat nor gloom of night stays these
couriers from the swift completion of their rounds?” That’s not the official motto of
the Postal Service; it’s just the whim of an architect. And it’s nonsense.
When the weather is really bad or there’s other danger to postal personnel, the mail
isn’t delivered. That includes vicious dogs, dangerous neighborhoods and power outages.
Many stamp collectors spent much of the storm on their Internet message boards,
checking on their philatelic friends. Stamp collecting, or “philately,” helps you
make friends all over the country and the world.
A pilot stamp show at the National Postal Museum has been postponed because of the
storm damage....not to the Museum, but to the surrounding areas from which dealers
and collectors will travel.
Every so often, reality intrudes.
