The Most Valuable Player

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

An auction was held in Switzerland recently for a single stamp. Just four parties were 
invited to bid; only two showed up.

The stamp was the Treskilling Yellow of Sweden, the world's most valuable stamp. It was 
issued in 1855, used two years later to mail a letter, and found in a pile of old papers 
by a boy more than 20 years later....and it's the only one known.

All the other three-skilling stamps were printed in green. No one knows why this one is 
yellow. It's been tested, and it's not that the color faded or was chemically altered.

The U-S has a famous error stamp, the Inverted Jenny airplane. But there are nearly a 
HUNDRED of them still known to exist and THEY were never used in the mail. A copy of that 
stamp sold three years ago for 825-thousand dollars....and two more are in an upcoming 
sale.

The auctioneer won't say how much the Treskilling Yellow sold for this time, but hints it 
was about the same as the last time -- more than 2-point-3 million dollars, making it by 
weight the most valuable object in the world.
