The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

The first postage stamp was issued 170 years ago, and stamp collecting is almost that old. 
But in the last decade, the hobby has gotten quite a boost from personal computers.

The obvious example is the Internet. Stamp collectors can now communicate with each other, 
and with postal agencies, anywhere in the world, and get answers within minutes. 

The Internet also enables smaller organizations to publish a newsletter or journal in full 
color and distribute it widely, without paying for paper, ink or postage.

Even a hard-copy newsletter is easier to produce now, thanks to personal computers..

There's also something called publishing-on-demand: A society doesn't have to print a 
minimum number of copies of a handbook now, it just has to print copies as they're ordered. 
There's no unsold inventory gathering dust in someone's garage.

And keeping track of what stamps you have and what you need is so much easier now. Best of 
all, having a backup copy is so convenient that losing the inventory list you took to a show 
is no longer a disaster.
