As easy as A-B-C.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Many serious stamp collectors like to show off part of their collections at a major
show. But at NAPEX in the Washington D-C area this spring, there's a new wrinkle: The
Alphabet Challenge.
"The exhibitors are creating 16-page exhibits all based on one letter of the alphabet"
RUNS :06
That letter this year, says show chairman Darrell Ertzberger, is "L." That could mean
stamps and mail from a country like Latvia or Libya, or a subject that starts with an L.
The topic of one of the entries is Laundry.
"I think the exhibitor is using advertising covers from the turn of the century."
RUNS:05
That is, envelopes that advertised laundry services and products, such as soaps or washing
machines.
Ertzberger says NAPEX got the idea from a show in Houston, where the challenge was exhibits
for a certain COLOR.
"They have a box of Crayola crayons. They draw out a color, and then it's a challenge to
make an exhibit based on that color. And we here in Washington put a little twist on that
and thought, well, colors are nice, but we chose the alphabet letters."

The results of the Alphabet Challenge will be shown at NAPEX in McLean Virginia in early
June. For more information, visit NAPEX -- that N-A-P-E-X--
