The Perennials
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
It used to be that the only subject certain to be on stamps at your post office was the flag.
Not any more.
The flag stamps are still there, but other subjects are becoming fixtures, too.
The Purple Heart stamp was first issued in Two Thousand Three. It was reissued last year at
thirty-nine cents, and that was supposed to be the end of it. Then in June, the Postal Service
decided to create a forty-one cent version. In both cases, we're told it's because the public
wanted them.
Another stamp you'll always find is Breast Cancer Research. First issued in Nineteen
ninety-eight, it was only supposed to stay on sale for a few years, then make way for other
charity stamps....but supporters have campaigned successfully to keep it in stock.
Post offices SHOULD keep the Forever stamp on sale, and coming soon is the all-purpose Celebrate
stamp, which replaces Happy Birthday.
And, at least at certain times of the year, you should find various holiday stamps.
That's Stamp Collecting this week. I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.

Strangely, the stamp is being issued during the convention of the Military Order of the Purple
Heart, but there's no tie-in with that event.
Another stamp you'll always find is Breast Cancer Research. First issued in Nineteen
ninety-eight, it was only supposed to stay on sale for a few years, then make way for other

Both stamps have powerful backers in the Senate, Hillary Clinton and Diane Feinstein,
respectively.
Post offices SHOULD keep the Forever stamp on sale, and coming soon is the all-purpose Celebrate
stamp, which replaces Happy Birthday.
And, at least at certain times of the year, you should find various holiday stamps -- Eid,
Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and, of course, Christmas.
