The Postal Service delivers.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Two recent news items about the Postal Service could affect the U-S stamps you collect.
One is obvious, the change in the waiting period before a person can be honored on a stamp,
from ten years after death to five. That opens the door to a Bob Hope stamp in Two Thousand
Eight, for example, rather than Two Thousand Thirteen. Some are also impatient for a Rosa
Parks stamp. But don't expect to see any changes right away. The Postal People tell us the
rule change won't affect any of the stamps issued next year.
The other news was the passage of the Postal Reform Act. It eliminates a requirement that
the Postal Service help fund military pensions. That was the reason for THIS year's rate hike.
The one expected next year is to cover increasing expenses, such as gasoline. But if the money
from last year's increase can be used for expenses, then there may not be a need to raise
rates....or issue stamps for those new rates.
