Dumb Luck

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Losing your stamp collection isn't that funny but Simon Codrington of Hugh Wood Insurance did
have an amusing claim once from a forgetful collector.

"This gentlemen was driving back from his club. He had a really small car, and put his stamp
collection on his roof rack, because it wouldn't go in his car. Gets into his local village,
sees there's no line for the automatic car wash, for the first time for ages, rips into the
car wash, completely forgets about the collection on the roof rack, throws his coins in, and
remembers as the brush comes down.

"Bye-bye one collection."

LdeV: "Do you pay claims for things like that or is there a stupidity clause?"

Codrington: "There's no stupidity exclusion. The guy was genuinely, genuinely heartbroken. We
felt really sorry for him...."

LdeV: "But did you pay?"

Codrington: "Oh, we paid. We absolutely paid, to the cent. I think he was more upset because
he'd lost these things which had spent him years to put together."
