From the Halls of Montezuma to your post office.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Usually the Postal Service likes to get all its stamps issued by the end of October, but not
this year.
[Marine's Hymn music, establish & under]
The Distinguished Marines stamps, honoring 4 heroes of the Corps, will be issued November Tenth.
That's the Marine Corps' birthday, says former Marine and Assistant Secretary of State Bob Lamb.
"This is, for the Marines, THE national holiday."
RUNS :03
Lamb is now executive director of the American Philatelic Society, the nation's biggest stamp
club. He's especially excited by this issue.
"Oh, absolutely, I wouldn't miss it. In fact, many of my Marine friends, even though they're
not stamp collectors, have asked if I would help them get first day covers or stamps."
RUNS :10
[Marine's Hymn fades up]
And while the Postal Service originally intended the stamps for Memorial Day, Lamb and other
Marines felt there was no date other than November 10th.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
