How They See Us
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
It's kind of fun to see how the mainstream press and non-collectors treat stamps and stamp
collecting.
The day the Muppet stamps were released, a Buffalo television station ran the story and said
the stamps will be available....in Two Thousand Six. Nope. They should be in your post office
right now.
The building is a post office. The agency is the Postal Service, and has been for more than
thirty years. Some news organizations haven't figured that out yet.
Non-collectors are always asking me what the most valuable stamp in my collection is.
I don't know. I don't collect that way. So finally, in self-defense, I made up an answer.
At the Muppets stamp ceremony, Kermit the Frog said that being on a stamp is one way to be
canceled without having a TV show. That's cute. But if I hear the phrase "stamp of approval"
one more time, I may go postal myself.
Oops -- "go postal" is a phrase guaranteed to infuriate postal workers!
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
