By The Numbers
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The latest sales figures are in for the U-S charity stamps -- those stamps that cost a little
bit more than needed to mail a letter, with most of the excess going to a charity.
So far, according to Postal Service figures, the first of these "semi-postal" stamps, for
Breast Cancer Research, has raised more than 45 million dollars from the sale of six hundred
million stamps. It's been on sale for almost seven years now.
The Heroes of Two Thousand One stamp went off sale at the end of last year. In two and a half
years, almost 133 million stamps were sold, raising about 11 million dollars.
The Stop Family Violence stamp has sold far fewer stamps in about 18 months: Just 25 million
for about two million dollars in charity funding.
Supporters constantly beat the drum for the Breast Cancer stamp, while the Heroes stamp design,
based on that famous photo of firemen at Ground Zero, is just a good-looking, uplifting stamp.
And that's Stamp Collecting this week.
