Picturing the Wild Blue Yonder.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
The past few years haven't been the best of times for the Air Force Academy, but next
spring, it celebrates its 50th anniversary, and a stamp will be issued for the occasion.
It's based on a photograph by aviation photographer Philip Handleman.
[TAKE
" It was done at the crack of dawn, so you had some very interesting light shining on
the building, and it gives off an amber glow at its base, and a purplish tone across the
glass exterior wall."

It's not the first stamp for Handleman: His picture of the Thunderbirds flying team was
the basis for the 50th anniversary stamp for the Air Force itself. He's had photographs
published many times before, but a stamp is special.
"When your photograph is incorporated on a postage stamp, a whole lot of additional
people get to see your picture."

And that's stamp collecting this week.
