Deeply-Rooted Preferences

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

Many people collect stamps by their subjects. That's called topical or thematic collecting. 
The American Topical Association recently took a look at what its members like, and found 
that PLANTS on stamps was the top choice. That would include all sorts of flowers, trees 
and herbs.

The second most popular topic, not surprisingly, was Animals, followed by sports, ships and 
birds. 

Of all the animals, only cats had enough fanciers to make the list on its own, at number 15. 
Other popular topics are medicine and health, space, trains, religion and scouts.

Medicine included all sorts of related fields, like the Red Cross and disabilities. The 
A-T-A also had to decide which category to put some subjects in -- for instance, Florence 
Nightingale landed in Famous Women rather than Medicine, and X-rays were deemed science 
rather than Medicine.
