Late to the party.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
A few weeks ago, the Postal Service told us what stamps it will be issuing next year.
But if you think that's the final word on the subject...you're wrong. Between now and
the end of Two Thousand Four, issues will be added and deleted.
That's been the case this year. In a couple of weeks, we'll get the recently-announced
District of Columbia stamp. Never mind that the District's bicentennial was three years
ago, Washington's delegate to Congress insisted there had to be a D-C stamp to go along
with the recent statehood stamps, and she got her way.
In October, Ohio University's bicentennial will be honored with a postcard. That
anniversary is actually NEXT year, but the school wanted to start its celebration early
to tap into the state bicentennial THIS year, and the postcard was moved up.
Then there's the Snowy Egret stamp, which features a striking painting of the bird. It
will be issued in rolls of a hundred, so you'll probably see a lot of it on your mail.
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
