A busy summer for stamps.
The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
Once upon a time, in the days before air conditioning was common, stamp
collecting took a break for the summer. The last thing a collector wanted
was high humidity making the stamps stick together!
Now, there are major stamp shows in the summer, and, this summer at least,
some pretty good philatelic news stories.
Sources tell us the Greetings from America stamps will be re-issued in
September at the 37-cent rate and a Purple Heart stamp that politicians want
is a good bet in the next few years.
Another major stamp show -- Rochester -- has moved to the summer, but not
just for the reason you'd think, the weather: Its long-time hotel would
rather book weddings, and the new site is only available in late June.
The Cary Grant stamp is coming out in October, and we now have a design.
It's at virtual-stamp-club-dot-com.
And super-model Heidi Klum will be at the biggest stamp show of the year
next month, Atlantic City, when Grenada issues stamps honoring her.
Summer break, indeed!
And that's stamp collecting this week.
I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
