Turning Stamp Collecting Upside Down


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.


It's probably the most famous U-S stamp ever: The Jenny Invert. 
It's the upside-down bi-plane on the 24 cent air mail stamp. 
Only one sheet of one hundred was ever found.


Today, each of those stamps is worth at least a hundred thousand 
dollars.


Mystic Stamp Company took out large ads recently offering one for 
that price.


"It's a stamp that many collectors dream about; it's just a really 
cool stamp, and so we thought it would be fun to see if we could 
sell it by offering time payments."

Mystic's Don Sundman says this Jenny Invert isn't perfect, but that 
proves a point.


"I think somebody...a collector...can say, 'Gosh, this $10 stamp 
doesn't have gum but it's still a collectible stamp. Look at this 
$100,000 stamp that doesn't have gum."

Another one is about to go on the auction block. Millionaire stamp 
collector Ned Greene bought the entire sheet, but put one stamp 
inside a glass locket and gave it to his wife.
