Where's Frida?


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
 
Later this month, the U-S is issuing a stamp to honor 
20th-Century Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It was supposed to 
be a joint issue with Mexico -- that is, both countries 
issue stamps on or about the same day, perhaps similar 
designs, and work with each other in promoting and selling 
the stamps. Often for joint issues, one country's stamp will 
be available at the other country's launch ceremony.


That's the way it worked earlier this year for the U-S and 
Swedish stamps for the Nobel Prize centennial.  Swedish 
officials came here, American officials went there. No muss, 
no fuss.


Yet a few weeks before this issue, the U-S Postal Service 
was having trouble getting information from Mexico. And now, 
at the last minute, it WON'T be a joint issue.


This stamp was originally penciled in for last year, but 
reportedly postponed because the U-S postal people weren't 
getting much cooperation from those South of the Border. 


Sounds as if they STILL aren't.


And that's stamp collecting this week.
