The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
 
Baseball stamps are always popular, both with collectors and 
mailers, and because they sell well, with the postal 
authorities that issue them.


The U-S this summer will issue a set of ten featuring 
legendary playing fields, such as Comiskey Park and Ebbetts 
Field.


But Canada leads off the season with a stamp for the Toronto 
Blue Jays, and it looks like an extra base-hit: It's an 
odd-shaped self-stick that will be issued on the club's 25th 
home-opener. The 47-cent domestic-rate stamp features the 
Blue Jays logo, a baseball and a banner.


You can order it from Canada Post's National Philatelic Centre, 
800 565-4362, for about 30 cents each.


It's not Canada's first odd-shaped stamp, but it IS the first 
for a major league team - and the Montreal Expos are 7 years 
older. Canada didn't issue a stamp for the Expos' aniversary. 
How come? 


A Canada Post spokesman told us, simply, the Blue Jays asked.
