Commemorative junk mail.


The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.
 
Just as the U-S Mint's commemorative quarters program is 
sparking interest in coin collecting, Jim Helzer of Unicover 
thinks the Postal Service could do the same for stamps.


"They could take their routine bulk mail stamps...instead of 
having the same bulk mail stamp, which is the most-used stamp, 
after all ....and they could change the designs every month...
whatever...and get people to start looking for the new stamps 
to come out." RUNS :14


Those are the stamps we see most often on the mail.


Not only would different designs be good for stamp collecting, 
says Helzer, who markets many foreign countries' stamps in 
North America, it would be good for direct mail advertisers.


"People would be looking more carefully at the mail they 
received, which would enhance the desirability of third class 
or what's now called or standard mail."  RUNS :09


It doesn't have to be 50 state anythings, Helzer says, but 
could be space achievements or national parks. The trick he 
says is to produce stamps that form a collection.
