Appealing to Kids.

The Stamp Collecting Report, I'm Lloyd de Vries.

October is Stamp Collecting Month, and the U-S and Canada are
issuing stamps with kids in mind.

The U-S entry is Deep Sea Creatures, five types of marine life.
Canada's four stamps for Stamp Collecting Month show whales.

In addition to issuing the stamps, the two countries will
promote stamp collecting to children, with programs and
advertising.

But these aren't the only new stamps of interest to children
(and, of course, to the young at heart among the rest of us).
Australia, which allows living people on its stamps, has been
issuing commemoratives for each of its gold medals at the
Sydney Olympics. At least one variety of the stamp for
heart-throb swimmer Ian Thorpe has sold out.

Speaking of vanishing acts, legendary magaicians will be
honored by Grenada, Nevis, Dominica and St. Vincent. They
include David Copperfield and Harry Houdini. Although those
countries are in the Caribbean, the stamps will be issued at
a ceremony in Grand Central Terminal in New York on October
19th.

And that's stamp collecting this week.

I'm Lloyd de Vries, CBS News.
